CELTIC, Central Europe. Noricum (East). 1st century BC. Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 1.02 g, 9 h). Male head to left, the strands of hair upwards like flames and the neck formed in the shape of an A. Rev. Bearded warrior advancing to right, holding shield in his left hand and raising his right; to left and right, dots and lines replacing legend. Dembski -. Flesche -. Lanz -. OTA -. Paulsen -. Rauch MBS 11 (2006), 40 (same obverse die). Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Struck from fresh dies on sound silver. Minor scrapes, otherwise, extremely fine.

This unpublished issue is heavily influenced by the Athena-Alkis-series of the Boii. A number of examples have shown up over the years, but most of them were struck in poor silver and are heavily worn.
